During freshman year when both my alcohol tolerance and common sense were low, I used to unplug the ethernet cable from the back of my computer before going out on Friday and Saturday nights. When I got back, if I was too drunk to get the cable back in, it meant I was too drunk to be on Facebook. I tried to come up with a similar system for my phone, but the only thing I could think of was to remove the battery, which it turns out is something I can’t do very well while sober either.
We have not solved the phone problem yet, but there is a better solution for the internet. Enter Mail Goggles from Google Labs. This new Gmail feature makes you think before you send. On Friday and Saturday nights, you have to do a few simple math problems before your mail goes through. There are five levels of difficulty, with the easiest involving just addition and subtraction of mostly one digit numbers, with the hardest adding extra digits and division.
Now this needs to be applied to more than just e-mail. I love the “drunk lock” proposed in the best article every day.

Changing the subject… I’m thirsty and I feel the need to be creative, therefore I will be live blogging my fast. Seriously. I figured that I spend about 45 minutes each day eating, and instead of spending that 45 minutes fixating on not eating, I will write about it. I’ll actually start tomorrow, but I want to leave you with this thought: why is it that as soon as we can’t do something, it becomes all that we think about. There have been many days where I have not eaten until 5:00 or 6:00 because I haven’t been hungry, or I was busy and just never really thought about eating. But I guarantee I will wake up tomorrow and be starving and thinking about it all day, which really defeats the purpose of a religious fast, don’t you think?
